  • 8/14/2008 - New USTTA Rules This Year.

    4. Playing without an umpire
4.1 Non-umpired matches. The umpire, when one is assigned, is responsible for ensuring that the match is conducted fairly. The players are equally responsible for fair play in a match without an umpire. Specifically:
4.2 No “second chances” are allowed. A player will have only one chance to score a point. The most common situation is where another ball comes into the playing area during a rally. If a player then strikes the ball (perhaps a high set up) and misses the shot, the result of that shot must stand; the player cannot then call a let because he was disturbed. S/he took his/her chance and doesn’t get another one.
4.3 The player closer to the play, such as an edge ball, will make the call. This call may not be disputed.
4.4 Players in a non-umpired match should attempt to resolve problems by applying the above rules and good sportsmanship.
4.5 Any player in a match has the right to request that the Referee appoint an umpire for that match
4.6 For an unresolved dispute, the player should call for an umpire immediately. Do not continue playing, and complain about it latter. That will not change the results of the game or the match.

  • 5/31/2008 - RTTC hosts inter-club competition with the St. Adalbert Table Tennis Club.:

It is always a fun time when the SATTC comes to Rochester ! The play is spirited, but even more satisfying than the lively competition are the many friendships that have sprung from these matches. In particular, we are indebted to Vinh Vuong for his excellent coaching of several RTTC players. Vinh is a delightful and generous person, and was willing to give up his match time to help us improve our games.

RTTC matched up very well this last day of May! Team #2, composed of Don, Norm, Dave J., Prasad, Dave N., Randy and Pete, outscored their St. Paul counterparts 19-16. Pete, Norm and Prasad led the way, each notching four wins with only one loss. SATTC players Justin Wynn (on loan from RTTC) and Mai Truong both came away with 5-2 records, tops among SATTC's Team #2.

Competition was fierce between RTTC #1 and SATTC #1, with RTTC coming up a game short of victory. Top honors for the day went to our Lai who finished the day undefeated. Joel and SATTC's Duc Luu also fared well, each winning all but one match.

Here are our results against our good friends:

    Team #1: Lai 4-0, Joel 3-1, Sam 2-2, Quang 1-3, Tu 1-3, Huang 0-3.

    Team #2: Pete 4-1, Norm 4-1, Prasad 4-1, Don 2-3, Dave N. 2-3, Randy 2-3, Dave J. 1-4.
